One of the things we have found to be helpful to most people facing foreclosure is the filing of Chapter 7 bankruptcy or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
Most people are honest hard working individuals who want to pay all of their bills. Unexpected things come up in life that are unpredictable and unavoidable. People don't plan to lose their job or suffer an illness or accident that prevents them from working. Life brings many changes and when the economic conditions are poor many people will find themselves laid off from their jobs. Then if they are able to find a job at all it is generally not a very good paying job that they will accept during an economic downturn.
When things get tough and good jobs are hard to come by then the one thing that doesn't change is the mortgage payment, credit card bills still arrive monthly and our car payments are still due. People begin to live off their credit cards based upon the good credit they've built up over the years. They will take what money they have and juggle it in an attempt to pay something to all the creditors that they owe. Finally the day comes when no amount of juggling will help and bill payments are missed.
The next thing that happens is that the good credit built up over years of paying bills on time starts to become a thing of the past. Bill collectors begin to call the debtor gets stressed out and has trouble sleeping, people often end up divorced over the mounting stress of paying higher interest rates. The creditors raise rates on your credit cards if you make a payment late and some credit card companies will raise your rate even if you have never been late with them and were only late with some other credit card company.
In the end there is no way out of this situation when the math simply doesn't add up. You have a lot more bills due than money coming in and the interest rates on everything have gone up so much that you'd need at least two lifetimes to pay it off.
This is why the bankruptcy laws were created, to help people facing foreclosure and other problems.
It is not your fault, it's the economy!
